How did they make the robot look like a cylinder? and How did they draw the shadow under the arm?

    They curved the top and bottom lines and added shadow. Made a rectangle and curved the line.

    they made a square and curved the lines on the top and the bottom to make it look 3D. Then they made a line where the shadow should end and used the fill tool to make it slightly darker... like a shadow :)
